Introduction

La Palma is not only the Eldorado for mountain bikers, divers, paragliders, hikers and dropouts, but also one for lovers of classic and vintage cars, in Spanish "clásico". In addition to the clásicos in private garages, which are used for official occasions such as excursions and fiestas, you can see a number of clásicos daily on the streets of La Palma.

A "clásico" can be seen in Spain at the admission, the matricula. The Spanish license plates were numerical plates until 06.10.1971, combined with the abbreviation for the province, which ended for the province of Tenerife with TF-75.227 on 05.10.1971.

La Palma belongs to the province of Tenerife, so has the abbreviation TF. Example: TF - 9508 means, that the car was registered before 31.12.1955 and it is the 9508th car in the province of Tenerife. After the 06.10.1971 a four-digit number was combined with one, starting from 1987 with two letters.

A car is automatically taxed since the 01.01.2016 (TF-7039 V) from 30 years - before 25 years - automatically to a "clásico" and automatically with 1 € per year. For comparison: approx. 192 € in Germany.

The amount of motor insurance is a "clásico", regardless of engine capacity, condition, etc. with a license between 1970 and 1980 at 99 €, in a "clásico" with a license between 1920 and 1930 at 30 € annually. This amount is reduced if you belong to a classic car club and several classic cars.

You can click on the white button or on one of those vintage cars to determinate their age, after you have clicked on the red field VER FECHA DE MATRICULACION.

For Android smartphones, there is the free App FechMat on Google play. This will show you offline the age of the cars.
